On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the founding of Shenzhen University, in order to better build an alumni platform, link alumni resources, and empower alumni development, the School of Government of Shenzhen University held the first alumni council founding conference & alumni homecoming day in the afternoon of May 14, 2023, at the Wenhui Auditorium of Lihu Campus. The attendees included: Wang Yongcheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee & Vice President of Shenzhen University; Party Secretary Chen Wen and Deputy Deans Gu Zhijun, Wu Haiyan and Huang Binhuan from the School of Government; Professor Ma Jingren, Professor Lyu Yuanli, Teacher Luo Wen’en and Teacher Fu Yang as faculty representatives of the Department of Public Administration; Professor Tang Juan and Teacher Chen Kelin as faculty representatives of the Department of Political Science; Professor Xu Daowen as faculty representative of the Department of Sociology, as well as representatives of undergraduate and graduate alumni from the three majors, i.e., Administration, Political Science, and Social Work.
Professor Wang Yongcheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee & Vice President of Shenzhen University, delivered a speech for the conference. On behalf of the university, he extended congratulations on the founding of the first council of the Alumni Association of the School of Government. He said that today is a memorable day; in the past 40 years of development, the university has undergone great changes. The university leadership attaches great importance to the Alumni Association and alumni work, and an alumni square has been set up in Yuehai Campus to welcome alumni back to the university to hold academic lectures, career promotion and other activities. Vice President Wang Yongcheng especially pointed out that the School of Government is the youngest school in the university; the development of the school of liberal arts faces constraints and challenges, and the attention and support of alumni are very important for the construction and development of the school. We should build the Alumni Association into a “gas station” and a “warm home” jointly owned by alumni, and create a home of shared friendship and pursuit of spirit. It is hoped that all alumni will use the Alumni Association platform as a bond of contact to strengthen the connection with the university and alumni, continue to carry forward Shenzhen University’s spirit of “Self-reliance, self-discipline, self-improvement”, make achievements in different fields, and contribute to the development of the school and the university!
Professor Yu Keping, Dean of School of Government, sent his greetings to the conference. He said that alumni are of great significance to the development of the school and the university, and the performance and achievements of alumni are an important reflection of the university’s education, social image, soft power and other aspects. The development of the school and the university cannot be without the support of alumni, who are a strong supporting force for the development of the school and the university. In addition, Professor Yu Keping also hoped that the Alumni Association of the School of Government could become a model for the alumni associations of other schools of the university, and he looked forward to meeting with the alumni of the school again in Liyuan.
Professor Chen Wen, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Government, delivered a speech at the conference. On behalf of the school, Secretary Chen Wen expressed his gratitude to the leaders, guests and alumni attending the conference. He said that the Alumni Association of the School of Government is the link of students’ emotional collective memory, the totem of the continuation of the spirit of the university, and the family shared by all members of the School of Government. The founding of the first council of the Alumni Association of the School of Government coincides with Mother’s Day and the 40th anniversary celebration of the university, which gives it a special significance. He wished all the alumni a great career in different fields.
Then, all the alumni representatives at the conference voted to approve the “Charter of the Alumni Association of the School of Government of Shenzhen University” and the “List of Members of the First Council of the Alumni Association of the School of Government”. Vice President Wang Yongcheng and school leaders issued the letter of appointment for the honorary president, president, vice president, executive vice president, director and liaison person of the first council. At that point, the first council of the Alumni Association of the School of Government was formally founded.
Subsequently, the alumnus Chen Jialing, President of the First Council of the Alumni Association of the School of Government & President of Sina Shenzhen; the alumnus Qiu Nanshan, the representative of the alumni of School of Government, who graduated from the major of administration in 1993; Professor Lyu Yuanli, the faculty representative of the School of Government, addressed the conference successively, expressing the alumni’s nostalgia for study years at the university, gratitude to the school and teachers, congratulations on the founding of the alumni association, and greetings to the alumni!
At that point, the first alumni council founding conference successfully concluded. After the conference, all the attending alumni took a group photo and made an appointment to visit the school and the campus, and had dinner together to renew their friendship. We believe that with the care and support of the school and leaders at all levels, and with the joint efforts of all alumni, the Alumni Association of the School of Government will take this conference as an opportunity to realize the change from zero to one, and also realize the development from one to good!
